Celebrate Art and Inclusion at Cheong Wa Dae

by BMPLUS 2024. 4. 18.

Visitors listen to the explanation of works during the 'A+ (A+) Festival of Culture and Arts for the Disabled 2023' at Chuncheokan, the presidential office of the Blue House, in Seoul, South Korea, on Monday afternoon.

Join us on April 20th at the Cheong Wa Dae’s Chunchoo Hall for a remarkable display of talent and spirit, as we celebrate the 44th Day of Persons with Disabilities. This cultural event, held in partnership with the Korea Federation of Disabled Artists and the Heart Visual Impairment Chamber Orchestra, will feature an art exhibition and a special concert, bridging the gap between disabled and non-disabled communities through the universal language of art.

Exhibition: "Bright and Beautiful"

Opening on April 17th at 4 PM and running until April 20th, this exhibition will showcase 30 award-winning pieces from the Korea Disability Art Festival, including calligraphy, traditional Korean and Western paintings. Discover the diverse and vibrant works of disabled artists who have made significant impacts in the visual arts.

Concert: "Melodies of Love"

Scheduled for April 20th at 3 PM, this year’s concert will blend familiar tunes from movies, musicals, and operas. Featuring 15 visually impaired musicians alongside 10 non-disabled performers, this ensemble will deliver an enriching experience. Noteworthy collaborations with soprano Kang Hye-jung and baritone Woo Ju-ho will add a poignant touch to the melodies.

Ongoing Support and Accessibility

Following last year’s introduction of a priority purchasing system for artworks by disabled artists and the opening of the first standard performance venue for disabled artists, the "All Art Theater," the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism continues to support disabled artists extensively. Plans for 2024 include the creation of a standard exhibition space and mandatory regular exhibitions and performances at public cultural facilities, further promoting the accessibility and recognition of disabled artists’ work.

Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Yu In-chon, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, noting, "This exhibition and concert at Cheong Wa Dae will demonstrate the power of cultural arts to transcend barriers between disabled and non-disabled individuals, fostering a more inclusive society."
