Discover the Hidden Gem of Sinan: The 5th Island Croaker Festival

The '5th Island Croaker Festival' is awaiting your presence from April 19th to 21st, 2023, at the Mul-Yang-Jang in Hwado Port, Docho-myeon, Sinan County. This event is organized to showcase the abundant marine products of Sinan’s 1004 islands and to foster community spirit among locals and visitors.

The croaker, locally caught using traditional methods in Sinan, derives its name from 'Ganjameo', mentioned in the classical text "Jasan Eobo" by Jeong Yak-jeon. This fish is known for its firm flesh, which is uniquely cleaned and tenderized using makgeolli (rice wine), enhancing its flavor. During the festival, visitors can enjoy a variety of croaker dishes, including the highly acclaimed croaker salad. The combination of its chewy cartilage and soft flesh has been celebrated as the best among various fish salads.

Throughout the festival, attendees can participate in various hands-on programs such as croaker skinning and slicing, allowing them to experience the joy of preparing and cooking the fish firsthand. After being briefly halted due to the pandemic, this event, having started in 2013, marks its fifth occurrence this year and has established itself as a leading local seafood festival.

Sinan County anticipates that the festival will not only highlight the region’s stunning natural beauty but also contribute to the revitalization of the fisheries industry and increase local incomes. The Sinan croaker is not just treasured for its taste and nutritional value but also plays a significant role in the local economy and tourism.

The '5th Island Croaker Festival' aims to elevate the value of the croaker and widely promote its appeal. We invite you to this special event where you can enjoy the freshness of spring with Sinan’s croaker. Join us at the festival and immerse yourself in the unique charm of Sinan’s marine culture!
