The public libraries of Yongin Special City in Gyeonggi Province are gearing up to host a wide array of cultural events and experiences throughout April, marking 'Library Day' and 'Library Week' (April 12th to 18th). This serves as a reminder that libraries are more than mere collections of books; they are pivotal cultural and educational hubs within the local community.
A Packed Schedule of Events for Library Week
Giheung Library will kick off with a book concert themed 'Spring Night Music and Stories.' The event will feature a lecture and book talk by author Jeong Yeoul ('A Time When Literature is Needed'), as well as performances by the art community Arkeculture. Additionally, a 'Book Treasure Hunt' linked to the book of the year and a promotional exhibition for Library Day will take place in the library's front yard.
Various programs designed to enhance literacy are also on offer, catering to audiences ranging from infants to adults. These include 'Upgrading Infant Literacy,' 'Exploding Literacy with Picture Books,' 'Exciting Happy Book Play,' and 'Study Literacy for Our Child,' among others.
Author lectures and performance events are also drawing attention. Notable authors Jeong Hyunwoo and Jo Seungwoo will be giving talks at Sanghyeon Library and Giheung Library, respectively. Furthermore, science magic experience concerts 'Magic & Science,' performance 'I'm a Busker' with artists from Yongin Cultural Foundation, and the picture book panel theater puppet show 'Sun and Moon' are also scheduled.
Engaging SNS Events and Book Curation Exhibits
To encourage visits, Yongin City is organizing the 'Yongin City Library Visit Certification SNS Event.' Visitors to the 19 public libraries and 6 public small libraries can take photos of their book loan receipts or the event banners, share them on SNS, and stand a chance to win prizes through a draw.
Various libraries will display the librarian-curated exhibition 'Omniscient Library Perspective' throughout the month, and activities like 'Calligraphy Bookmark Making' will also be available for participation.
