The harbinger of spring and a chance to experience the beauty of nature up close is upon us. Seoul National University's Gwanak Arboretum, located in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, will be open for a limited time this spring. Following last year's opening, it will be open from April 15 to May 8 for approximately 23 days. This is the result of a collaboration between Anyang City and Seoul National University, and is expected to provide natural beauty and relaxation to many people.
Gwanak Arboretum offers a variety of walking trails and programs to coincide with the blooming season of various flowering trees. You can enjoy the springtime atmosphere at the Azalea Trail, Pine Lawn Garden, Aquatic Botanical Garden, Shrub Garden, Oak Observation Trail, and Mugunghwa Garden, and participate in forest healing, woodworking, and forest interpretation programs. These programs will provide visitors with a different experience and give them the opportunity to connect more deeply with nature.
Visitors should use the Arts Park public parking lot, which will be closed on Monday the 29th. Pets, food, drink, and litter are not allowed in the Arboretum, and plant picking or littering is strictly prohibited. These rules are in place to ensure that all visitors can enjoy the Arboretum in a pleasant and safe environment.
The opening is part of an important step toward the renaming and eventual opening of Seoul National University's Gwanak Arboretum, and Anyang Mayor Max Ho said, "We will provide a variety of support so that citizens who visit the arboretum can safely and comfortably enjoy the spirit of spring and heal."
The 1,554-hectare Gwanak Arboretum is located at the foot of Gwanak Mountain near Anyang Arts Park and has been delayed from fully opening due to the free transfer of state-owned property. The arboretum was the first certified arboretum in Korea in 1971, and serves as a school arboretum for education and research by the Korea Forest Service, as well as hosting public tours and social contribution programs.
Anyang City has signed an exchange cooperation agreement with Seoul National University to open the arboretum in 2022, and has been opening the arboretum for a limited time in spring and fall. We hope that this spring opening will allow many people to have a healing time in nature.
