This festival not only celebrates the historical and cultural heritage of Gyeongju but also brings together communities to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of lantern-lit evenings by the Hyungsan River. Whether you are drawn by the cultural significance or the sheer beauty of the lantern displays, the Hyungsan River Lantern Culture Festival offers a memorable experience for all ages.

 

Main Events: The festival kicks off on May 2nd at 5:50 PM with celebratory performances, an official opening ceremony, and a lantern lighting event that promises to transform the Hyungsan River into a luminous spectacle. The traditional lantern parade and turning ceremony follow, marking the beginning of a 25-day celebration.

 

Activities: Visitors can immerse themselves in a range of activities from May 2 to May 4 at the Hyungsan River banks. These include traditional and eco-friendly lantern making, such as watermelon and moon lanterns, traditional coloring, and crafting eco-friendly items like eco-bags and keyrings. Special events like lantern plogging on May 3 and a lantern festival on May 3-4 offer unique experiences.
