- Ginger trees will bloom in early March, azaleas in mid-March, and cherry trees in full bloom in late March
On March 27, the Korea Forest Service (Director General Nam Nam-hyun) released the '2024 Spring Flowering Prediction Map'. It said that the flowering period of ginger trees, azaleas, and cherry trees, which are the first signs of spring in the forest, are expected to be similar to previous years.
With temperatures in March and April expected to be similar to or slightly above normal, ginger trees are expected to bloom on March 6, azaleas on March 15, and cherry trees on March 23, starting in the southern regions and Jeju Island.
The flowering forecast was analyzed by nine public arboretums, including the National Arboretum and National Forest Science Center and Gangwon-do Provincial Flower Garden, based on annual observations of plant seasonal phenomena in 16 forest areas and 10 arboretums representing each region of Korea, as well as mountain weather information from mountainous areas.
"Although the cold snap continues, spring flowers are expected to bloom at a similar level to last year," said Nam Hyun-hyun, head of the Korea Forest Service. "We will continue to provide useful information for people's lives through precise predictions of plant seasonal phenomena in forest areas."
